About Sean:
What course are you studying and what level?
PhD in Architecture
Why did you chose that course?
I’m working to come up with a strategy to redesign the U.S.’s suburbs to be more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.
When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?
Began rowing at Greenwich Crew in 2011. I was an out of shape kid and my school required us all to play a sport each term. My mom and a friend’s mom (who rowed) hatched a plan where my mom would tell me my friend wanted to learn to row together, and my friend’s mom told my friend that I wanted to learn to row with him. 14 years later and the rest is history.
What was your first rowing club and coach?
My first rowing club was Greenwich Crew and my first coach was James Donovan, but I wouldn’t be where I am today without RowAmerica Rye and Aleks Radovic.
What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?
I didn’t really have one as a child, I was profoundly lazy/nerdy!
How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?
It’s given me a family overseas.
If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?
Cycling
What is your favourite non-academic book?
Uhh. . .
