As the Men and Women’s Blue Boats weigh-in together today, it is the Cambridge Men’s crew and Women’s crew that top the scales.
Cambridge outweighed Oxford at today’s Crew Announcement and Weigh-In for The Cancer Research UK Boat Race, with the Light Blues weighing in slightly heavier by an average of 1.48kg per man more than their Dark Blue rivals. For the fourth year in a row for The Cancer Research UK Women’s Boat Race, it was the Cambridge Blue Boat that topped the scales, weighing in by an average of 4.27kg per woman more than their Oxford opponents.
The average weight for the Cambridge Men’s crew was 88.25kg and a total weight of 706.0kg excluding the cox. Oxford’s Men weighed in with an average weight of 86.78kg and a total weight of 694.2kg excluding the cox.
For The Cancer Research UK Women’s Race, the average for the Light Blue crew was 74.80kg and a total weight of 598.4kg excluding the cox. The Dark Blue athletes weighed in marginally lighter with an average weight of 70.53kg and a total weight of 564.2kg excluding the cox.
The heaviest oarsman in this year’s Cancer Research UK Boat Race will be in the Oxford crew. Oxford four-man Joshua Bugajski tipped the scales at 96.4kg, some way off the heaviest oarsmen ever, a record held by the Cambridge 2007 strokeman Thorsten Engelmann at 110.8kg. Former Lightweight George McKirdy, is the lightest crew member on either side, weighing in at 76.8kg.
