About Indigo:
What course are you studying and what level?
DPhil in Cancer Genetics (second year)
Why did you chose that course?
I studied Biology for undergrad and wanted to branch into medicine and genetics.
When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?
I started at St Hugh’s College (Oxford) in 2019. My grandfather had rowed at Cambridge so I decided to try it as a family joke about the rivalry, and immediately loved it.
What was your first rowing club and coach?
St Hugh’s Boat Club (Oxford)
What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?
Does Kiera Knightley in ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ count? If not I think Serena Williams or Lionel Messi.
How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?
Trialling and being part of OUBC is an all-round incredible experience. There is a huge sense of belonging within the squad and everyone rooting for each other and one goal makes it special. It’s definitely changed my life for the better.
If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?
Fell running.
What is your favourite non-academic book?
Circe by Madeline Miller!
