About Clare:

Why did you choose MPhil in Population Health Sciences?

My course covers a wide range of population health disciplines but I am planning to specialise in Epidemiology. This particularly appealed to me as I want to learn how to research determinants and risk factors of diseases such as diabetes, allowing me to help people on a larger scale.

Why did you first try rowing?

I tried rowing when I first came to Cambridge as a way to meet people and get outdoors and quickly became hooked! I previously competed to international level in dressage so when I came to university, I found myself looking for another sport to fill the gap and rowing became the perfect fit.

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

Carmen Failla at St Catharine’s College Boat Club

Where else have you rowed?

CUBC

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

Racing and winning the 2022 and 2023 Reserve Women’s Boat Races as part of Blondie.

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

The 2022 Women’s Boat Race was an incredible display of rowing from both sides. I only got to watch it back afterwards as I was rowing in Blondie at the time but the decisive move made by Cambridge to break free gives me goosebumps and it was made extra special by training alongside those women and seeing their dedication.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

Winning would obviously be incredible and I would be so proud, however giving the best performance we can as a crew on the day is what motivates me the most.
