Annabelle Moger-Taylor

About Annabelle:
What course are you studying and what level?
MSci in Earth Sciences (Natural Sciences)
Why did you chose that course?
I was initially drawn to studying earth sciences within the broader natural sciences course due to the fieldwork component, but quickly became intrigued by the detail which with you can study past processes and events that have occurred up to billions of years ago on the planet.
When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?
I started rowing at college as a fresher with their novice program in 2021. I thought it was something that I had to try at least once being at Cambridge and it seemed like a good way to get me up in the mornings and getting on with my day. I love that rowing is so much of a team sport and relies on working together with other people. Early misty mornings on the river are also stunning, and another definite bonus to the sport.
What was your first rowing club and coach?
Churchill College Boat Club, Tom Upton.
What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?
We didn’t have a TV growing up so one of my first exposures to elite level sport was the London 2012 Olympics which we bought on DVD afterwards. At the time, I was swimming competitively so watching the swimming was very inspiring to me.
How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?
It is inspiring to be training alongside such talented and dedicated athletes within the Boat Race Squad.
If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?
I don’t think I would excel at it but I would love to do a triathlon one day.
