Cambridge won the Men’s Boat Race by 5 and a half lengths in their sixth victory in seven years. The verdict was 5.5 lengths in a time of 16:56.

Oxford won the toss and chose the Surrey (south) bank, and after a slight delay due to debris in the water, the crews were off under the flags of umpire Sarah Winckless, making history as the first female umpire of the men’s Boat Race on the Championship Course.

Cambridge went out to a slight lead by the end of the Fulham Wall, and continued to edge away from the Dark Blues.

At the Mile Post, Cambridge had three quarters of a length lead but umpire Winckless was kept busy warning Light Blue cox Ollie Boyne to keep his station on the Middlesex bank. By the crews got to Hammersmith Bridge, Cambridge stretched out their lead to clear water and the Light Blues continued to row away from Oxford. At the finish line the margin was 5 and a half lengths.
