Wandsworth – London Borough of Culture 2025
Wandsworth is thrilled to announce that it has been selected as the Mayor of London’s London Borough of Culture 2025 – and it’s an exciting year for the borough, especially as it is proud to host the world-famous Boat Race.
Since 1836, the iconic Boat Race has started in Putney, and as part of its year as the Borough of Culture, Wandsworth will celebrate this historic connection to rowing alongside a full programme of cultural events throughout 2025. Putney’s strong heritage in rowing, home to some of the UK’s top rowing clubs, plays a central role in Wandsworth’s identity, and the borough is excited to showcase this legacy alongside the vibrant cultural celebrations to come.
From April 2025 to March 2026, Wandsworth will shine a light on its diverse cultural heritage, bringing together local artists, performers, creatives, volunteers, and the community to create something truly special. Everyone is invited to be part of this extraordinary year, as the borough blends its rich history with contemporary creativity in an unforgettable celebration.
In 2025, Wandsworth will celebrate its rich cultural heritage with a year-long programme of events that bring together artists, performers, and the community. With a focus on accessibility, many free and low-cost events will ensure everyone can participate. The goal is to connect people, celebrate local talent, and improve health and wellbeing through culture.
Wandsworth is committed to leaving a lasting legacy of stronger creative networks and a healthier, happier community.
Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said:
“Our year as the London Borough of Culture is a fantastic opportunity to showcase and foster all the incredible talent and creative energy we have in Wandsworth. I hope as many people as possible get involved and make this a year to remember.”
